I started by making the head using an oval shape tool, I then got a picture of the Man United shirt and went around it with the the pen, i then added a cutout filter onto the original shirt layer and then copied the images of the shirt onto my vector image of the shirt.
I then drew the arms and hands, again with the pen tool, I feel the hands could have been better but managed to make them look like hands eventually.
The legs where again made with the pen tool, I then added the headphones and the glasses.
I added a ten pixel stroke around the character and also added an inside shadow to give the character some roundness and try to make it look three dimensional, this was done using the layer styles.

Hi Craig,
It’s good to see that you enjoy doing design experiments. I recommend that you experiment with photomontage / compositing. You might want to refer to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_manipulation
Or perhaps cutting the photos up and using them as graphic elements as they have here:

Or you might want to experiment with using layers, for example although this photo doesn’t appear to have been manipulated it does give you a sense of the image being composed from at least two distinct layers: http://tokyoyakei.jp/tokyo/sumida/toyomibashi/toyomibashi-10.jpg (this might provide ideal impetus for creating your "screaming light and colour" assignment).
